Kendra Horsburgh explores the LIMINAL - the transition or in-between space where emerging technologies blur boundaries and create new possibilities, often bridging the gap between physical and digital experiences.
As Co-Founder and Managing Director of BirdGang Ltd, an award-winning Hip Hop theatre company recognized by OneDance UK for innovation, Kendra uses cutting-edge technologies to enhance accessibility and deepen connections to the present. With over 20 years in the creative industries and an MBA, she is committed to making art and creative careers more sustainable and impactful.
At BirdGang Ltd, Kendra and her team empower communities, engage diverse audiences, and create work that resonates long after the curtain falls. Her mission is to harness technology to enrich, preserve, and shape the future of performance. She believes technology can bridge the past, present, and future of the arts.
Kendra coined the term “TECHXPERIENCE” in 2016 with NOX at the Young Vic, a groundbreaking, multi-tiered experience that integrated mixed reality into live performance. This innovation allows her to create interactive experiences and digital legacies, enabling audiences and artists to revisit performances long after they’ve ended.
In 2023, Kendra received a DYCP grant from Arts Council England to explore how technology can sustain and enhance creative careers. Projects she has worked on, such as ARTE: The Immersive Masterpiece for Celebrity Cruises and the West End’s & Juliet, showcase how immersive technologies enhance live performances while preserving their authenticity and humanity.
Through wearables and invisible tech such as extended Reality technologies, Kendra is redefining how audiences experience live performance. These tools allow audiences to step into performances and navigate narratives from unique perspectives. By expanding how and where art is experienced and supported, Kendra is researching a sustainable model for artistic creation that inspires and engages, leaving a vibrant legacy for future generations of creators, performers, and audiences.
